Why did you join the Miss Bahamas Universe Competition?
I entered the Miss Bahamas Universe competition in an attempt to create an international rapport in pageantry for my Bahamaland. I believe my spirit and drive can flourish in pageantry on an international scale and I can become the ambassador to showcase the true beauty of my country.
If you were to be crowned Miss Bahamas Universe 2009 what would you do?
If crowned Miss Bahamas Universe 2009, the first thing that I would do is to thank the Lord for allowing me to be blessed with such an opportunity. I believe that all things are possible through Christ who strengthens me; without him as my strength, nothing would be possible.
What has been the most unique or unusual thing that has happened to you?
The most unique thing that has happened to me upon entering this pageant was to actually be mentoring young female teenagers in the high school system. I felt an overwhelming sense of fulfillment and purpose. It brought tears to my eyes to hear the inspirational testimonials of teens that I had unknowingly affected.
Do you think the swimsuit contest at beauty pageants degrade women?
I do not believe that wearing a swimsuit at the pageant contest degrades women. I believe this segment is a source of liberation and allowing contestants to embrace their bodies in their present state or to inspire women to strive to improve themselves.
Give an idea of what your national costume will be and what does it represent?
My national costume exemplifies the vitality and diversity of our Bahamian people; Junkanoo. This costume displays vibrant colors and a flare that can only be Bahamian-owned. I will wear it proudly as it will be part of my heritage for generations to come.
What are the three most important things that you would do as Miss Bahamas 2009?
The three things I would do as Miss Bahamas Universe are: 1) compete on an international level in the hopes that I would be able to make milestones in the international pageantry world, 2) use my national position to increase awareness to the public of self-confidence and self-esteem especially for our youth and 3) to expand my Youth Empowerment Program to other islands of The Bahamas.
What is your favorite color and why?
My favorite color is that of many, like the rainbow; it holds all colors and hues.
If you had to reside on one of the Family Islands in The Bahamas which would it be and why?
If I were to reside on one of The Bahamas’ islands, it would be Eleuthera, the Island of Freedom. I recall summer vacations in my youth filled with aromas of rich seafood dinners, breathtaking views from snorkeling excursions, treacherous cliffs and the warmth of heartfelt welcomes. This island, in my opinion, epitomizes the ‘true’ spirit of our Bahamian culture. |
